In response to new rules and social distancing procedures put in place due to COVID-19, Hull City Council came to us for a solution to allow those practising social distancing to remotely attend and take part in council meetings. We evaluated multiple ways to achieve this, settling on one of many potential timely solutions. Cisco’s Webex.
Using Cisco the councillors could join meetings via laptops for the full video experience or dial into the meeting via phone for an audio-only experience.
The request to speak and camera follow functions are still maintained and applied to Webex. This allows the chairman/operator to control who is currently speaking in the meeting, as well as having the permissions to mute and unmute speakers. The operator can also create private conference rooms to discuss confidential matters.
The new solution continues to support a key part of any council meeting, guest speakers. Guest speakers can still attend the meeting remotely to raise any concerns they may have by simply accepting an email invitation.
