Smith & Nephew PLC are a FTSE100 manufacturer of specialist healthcare products with an annual turnover of $5 billion, employing 16000 people around the globe.
Smith & Nephew changed their UK business model and selected the Croxley Green Business Park in Watford for their new UK Headquarters and Commercial Hub. Within this building is housed, the Expert Connect Centre where Surgeons from around the World meet to exchange ideas and be trained on the use of the latest Smith & Nephew products.
The project was sectioned into 2 phases.
Phase1 - A 16 Room Meeting Centre We were given an overview specification of the requirements and asked to prepare and present a solution to the Stakeholders which would meet the Unified Communications requirements of this forward think-ing Global company. The key requirements of the system were.
Phase 2 - Medical Education Centre with Meeting and Reception Rooms Following Nuway’s successful completion and handover of Phase 1 of the Smith & Nephew PLC UK Headquarter and Commercial Hub installation, we were asked to tender for the ECC—Expert Connect Centre based on the ground floor of the Croxley Green development. The Expert Connect Centre is a learning facility where surgeons from the around the World can share their experi-ences and expertise, discussing clinical data, science, technique and technology. The facility covers pre-clinical, surgical and post-surgery activities and all aspects of advanced wound care.
Nuway designed a centralised solution, with all of the hardware for 15 rooms sited in a single cupboard space, only the Boardroom which had a suitable storage system has stand-alone equipment.
In-room equipment was kept to a minimum, and room equipment needed to be portable to allow changes in furniture configuration. This also meant specifying microphones which not only attached to the ceilings but also automatically switched between furniture configurations. The design used on-wall Apple iPad controllers with Barco Clickshare wireless presentation equipment in the rooms to facilitate this.
The Nuway team had a short time frame to provide a fully integrated design that would fulfil all of the Clients requirements. A few late nights working and some inspired thinking from the Nuway team was required to produce the integration that would allow the multiple design scenarios required by the Client.
