The £9.9 million Hornsea Hub project aimed to revitalize the leisure offerings in the town, encompassing a complete refurbishment of the original leisure center and the relocation of the town's Library and Children's Centre to a waterfront location.
Among the numerous enhancements, the leisure center saw the addition of an extended café area, new changing rooms, refurbished squash courts, and a dedicated Spin and Exercise Studio. Extensive refurbishments were also made to the pool area and changing rooms.
Nuway recognised the need for an updated audio-visual infrastructure to complement the modernized leisure center. A site-wide Audio-Visual design was proposed, featuring the versatile and reliable Audac R2 Multi-Zone Digital Audio Matrix. This system seamlessly integrates local microphone and music inputs, providing instructors with an easy-to-use interface tailored to their varying technical proficiencies. Additionally, the Audac R2 serves as a powerful Public Address and Voice Alarm (PAVA) system, further enhancing safety and communication capabilities. The inclusion of strategically positioned Tannoy microphones ensures effective management of emergency situations and general announcements.
A Multi-Zone Pool Hall Audio System was installed to deliver immersive audio experiences tailored to different areas within the pool facilities. This system, divided into multiple zones with strategically placed speakers, ensures consistent sound coverage and quality throughout the space, enhancing the overall atmosphere for patrons.
To support the integration of Les Mills fitness programs, Nuway implemented a comprehensive Exercise Hall Projection and Audio System. High-quality projectors and audio equipment were strategically positioned within the exercise halls, providing optimal visibility and sound reinforcement during workouts.
Nuway also incorporated the MyRide Spinning Class Coaching System to elevate the indoor cycling experience. This system combines interactive video content, virtual coaching, and performance-tracking features, enhancing motivation and engagement among participants.
Instructors were equipped with Shure GLXD Series wireless microphone systems, ensuring clear and reliable audio communication during fitness classes.
Nuway implemented Onelan Digital Signage to enhance communication and engagement within circulation areas and café zones. The system offers dynamic content display capabilities, showcasing important announcements, schedules, and promotions in a visually appealing format. Customized layouts were tailored to suit Hornsea Leisure Centre's requirements, and extensive training was provided to staff for effective utilization.
Nuway appointed experienced project manager Danny Hird to oversee the project, ensuring transparent communication and timely delivery despite challenges with COVID timescales. A comprehensive procurement plan and detailed GANTT chart facilitated project planning, while close collaboration with manufacturers enabled successful implementation.
Feedback from leisure center staff and East Riding Council representatives indicates satisfaction with the effectiveness of the implemented solutions. Tangible improvements in safety, communication, and user experience have been observed since the project's completion.
The Hornsea Hub project represents a successful collaboration between Nuway and East Riding Council, resulting in a revitalized leisure center equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual solutions. The project demonstrates Nuway's commitment to delivering high-quality, tailored solutions that enhance safety, communication, and user experience within leisure facilities.
